Large Sewers and Outfalls

Up for the Challenge For CWW there’s never a sewer too large for cleaning, inspection, and rehabilitation. Our specialized confined-space entry team will, according to our strict safety policies, venture in and through large diameter sewer pipes that demand the implementation of effective and sustainable solutions.

Knowledge Breeds Confidence Where required and precisely when needed, CWW can divert the flow from large sewers – more often than not collectors or interceptors. A video camera affixed to a large mud-master crawler is used for the inspection, or is hand held by the CWW operator as he journeys through the pipe. Another CWW team member cleans the pipe by advancing on foot. Should video inspection reveal structural defects, CWW will proceed with the rehabilitation process of the respective sewers and outfalls. For sealing leaks and cracks, specialized grouting equipment is assembled directly inside the pipe.

Over and Above CWW is also equipped to handle large diameter “over-the-hole wet-out” installations. The installation process consists of impregnating large size liners on site and over the manhole as it is being installed in the sewer.*

*For additional information along with photos of this type of installation, please see our “King Edward Sewer Rehabilitation” Case Study.

Bringing in the Heavy Artillery CWW has a successful history of deploying an extensive list of specialized equipment to clean and televise sewer outfalls, including an imposing flushing and pumping unit from its prolific equipment arsenal. In a case where the outfall of a storm sewer is submerged in a body of water, CWW deploys environmentally responsible measures of flushing debris to de-water the pipe for inspection. Professional divers are engaged to assist in completing large sewer outfall projects safely and effectively. CWW uses de-watering tanks that mirror the size of a tractor trailer to simultaneously separate the debris from the water that is being pumped from the sewer. The clean water is then introduced back into the pipe, and the debris is transported off-site and is disposed.

Note: CWW employees are trained and refreshed on a regular basis for confined space entry.
